The May holidays in Krakow are not about seeing everything.
It's about making good choices.

It's the moment when the city comes out of winter and starts to live differently: slower in the morning, more intense in the evening, more consciously. Instead of crowds in the Market Square, there are decisions. Where to go, what to see, what to listen to.

At TYZENHAUZ, we look at Krakow in exactly this way. Not as a list of attractions, but as an experience that can be arranged.

That's why we have prepared a selection of events that are really worth choosing.

A film that builds the city's atmosphere

One of the strongest points of this May holiday is definitely the Off Camera film festival – an event that attracts hordes of international cinephiles.
The program includes art-house cinemas, film premieres often not seen anywhere else. It is precisely this lack of distance between the film and the viewer that gives the festival its own rhythm and atmosphere, decidedly more intimate than large commercial events.
Why is it worth it? Because it's one of the most important independent film festivals in this part of Europe. The selection is conscious and well thought out, and the whole event invites careful watching and being a part of what's happening.
Choose one or two screenings. Leave yourself time for conversation, a walk, dinner, and getting to know Krakow.

After a day full of sightseeing and festival emotions, film lovers will find their rhythm also in Tyzenhauz apartments – equipped with large Smart TVs with access to streaming platforms such as Netflix, and comfortable sofas that allow you to watch your favorite movies and series exactly the way you like, in a private, comfortable space.

Music that stays for a long time

One of the most important musical events will be the Eric Clapton concert – an artist who needs no introduction. This is classic in its purest form. Music that doesn't need visual effects or additional narration because it is a story in itself.

On the other side of the musical spectrum is The Neighbourhood. A completely different energy – more contemporary, urban, based on the current sound and mood of the younger audience.

Why is it worth it? Because these two performances show how diverse Krakow can be during the May holidays. On one hand, classic and music history; on the other, freshness and modernity. Two worlds that create a full spectrum of experiences in one city.

Art that provides context

The Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology is a place that is itself an experience – minimalist, open to the Vistula River and the natural rhythm of the city. Exhibitions such as the works of Shigeru Ban or the context of Andrzej Wajda’s art take art beyond locality and build a narrative that operates on an international level while remaining very approachable.

Another important point is MOCAK Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow – a space that allows you to engage with contemporary art without excessive interpretation or distance. This museum works quickly but not superficially. It offers the possibility of a short, intense contact with art that requires no preparation or long planning.

One of the more interesting proposals is Lunch Break – a special event held cyclically. It combines a tour of current exhibitions with lunch at the museum restaurant Amant. Participation is ticketed and requires prior reservation at the museum reception.

The other option is Art Lunch – a more relaxed offer where a museum visit is combined with lunch at the Amant restaurant. Keeping the museum admission ticket grants a 20% discount on the lunch menu.

Both formats invite visitors not to treat the museum visit as a separate point of the day, but as its natural part – with space for eating, rest, and a calm “extension” of contact with art.

It's also worth stopping by the National Museum in Krakow, where the exhibition "Young Poland Group of Five" shows how art history can be surprisingly visually current. It's a story about form, color, and emotions that remain readable and close despite the passage of time.

,,The Young Poland Group of Five” shows the moment when young artists tried to break out of the prevailing patterns and build their own language. Their activity was short but a clear signal of change. It's art more personal, less subordinated to the national idea, closer to emotions and individual experience.

The exhibition is effective precisely because it is not obvious. It allows seeing Young Poland from a different perspective. More experimental, at times raw, but thus very authentic.

Theatre for those who want more

In Krakow, theatre and opera are not just single institutions, but an entire ecosystem of stages that allow experiencing the city in very different tones – from classical elegance to more contemporary, lighter forms.

The most recognizable venue is the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre – a historic stage with exceptional architecture and a repertoire often touching on classic Polish literature but also contemporary reinterpretations. This is where theatre has its most “official” and monumental form, and the building itself is part of the experience.

Another important point is the National Old Theatre – one of the oldest and most artistic stages in Poland. Here, the repertoire is often more demanding, authorial, focused on contemporary theatre language and experiment. It's an option for those who want to see theatre in a more reflective, less obvious form.

The Bagatela Theatre offers a completely different energy – lighter, more entertaining, often comedic. It's a good choice for an evening when you just want to have a good time, without heavy themes, in a more classical theatrical form.

When it comes to music and more spectacular forms, the Krakow Opera is also an important venue. It's a space where you can experience opera, ballet, and concerts with high production values – more elegant, more “evening-like,” with great attention to setting and atmosphere.

The repertoire of these places changes regularly, and it's best to check directly on the theatres' websites. During the May holidays, there is no fixed “special program” – rather, the current season's selection that allows choosing an experience according to mood: from classics, through experiments, to lighter forms and musicals.

Breaks that are just as important

The May holidays are not only about events. They are also about the space between them.

Krakow tastes best when you pause for a moment. At a table outside, with coffee or a glass of wine, watching the city slowly change the pace of the day and nature bloom around.

It’s precisely these moments that build the whole experience.

At TYZENHAUZ, we choose places that naturally fit into the rhythm of the May holidays. Below you will find some of our favorite recommendations that you can visit during your stay and taste Krakow.

Meho Cafe

There is a place on Krupnicza where you enter almost as if into another world. Hidden in greenery, right next to the museum, perfect for a quiet breakfast or coffee before the first point of the day.

Behind Meho Cafe’s door awaits a garden that is no coincidence. It is part of the former layout at the home of Józef Mehoffer – an artist who did not treat the space around him as a background but as an extension of his work. That's why this garden has something very ordered but at the same time natural.

The paths lead calmly between flower beds, the vegetation is dense but not chaotic, and the central part with the lawn and flower beds serves as a natural focus point. In season, everything here works on the senses: scents, colors, light breaking through the leaves.

The strongest feeling in Meho Cafe is precisely this sense of detachment. You sit a few minutes from the center, but you have the impression that the city stayed somewhere beyond the gate.

Address: Old Town district, ul. Krupnicza 26, 31-123 Kraków

TYZENHAUZ Apartments in this area: Wenecja II , Wenecja III , Garncarska I , Garncarska II

Dzikie Wino

What immediately distinguishes this place is its location. Dzikie Wino is located in the courtyard of the Palace under the Rams – one of the most recognizable yet most “hidden” addresses in the very heart of the Main Market Square. You just need to go through the gate to leave the noise behind and enter a calmer, more intimate space.

It’s a wine bar where natural wines are the most important – the selection is not random but also not “encyclopedic.” Rather intuitive, based on taste, quality, and character. Each bottle has its own story here, but no one imposes it. Wine is a starting point, not a presentation.

The atmosphere is unforced. This is not a place trying to be more elegant than necessary, nor more casual than appropriate. People come here in the evening because they know what they’re looking for – good wine, a quiet space, and a place where you can simply sit and stay.

The interior acts as an extension of conversations. Nothing distracts or dominates. There is light, tables, and glasses that appear in the natural rhythm of the evening. It is a place that doesn’t speed up the day but concludes it.

Dzikie Wino works well as the last point of the evening.

La Campana

The restaurant is located in the townhouse "House under the Three Crowns," a place connected over the years with important points of city life. According to tradition, Wawel bell ringers met here – those responsible for the Sigismund Bell. A job requiring strength, rhythm, and precision, followed by a moment of stillness in the same space.

Today this history has been replaced by something completely different but equally clear – calm and culinary consistency. Upon entering La Campana, you arrive at a place that combines the elegance of old Krakow with Italian simplicity. This is not a modern interpretation of Italian cuisine but rather a classic, refined version based on ingredient quality and respect for tradition.

One of the most exceptional elements is the garden. In this part of the Old Town, this is a rarity, and here it becomes a natural extension of the restaurant. Greenery, the scent of herbs, evening light... All this creates a magical atmosphere. Just come, sit, and savor the taste.

Karma

Karma is one of those places where, once you stop by, the day starts well. The menu changes with the season, bread is made on site, and the coffee is exceptional. The calm and local atmosphere allows you to enjoy every sip. It will suit everyone who likes vegan cuisine. Pay attention to the daily changing lunch offer and wonderful gluten-free and plant-based baked goods as well. On weekends, it’s worth stopping by for handmade pizza baked in a professional Italian oven and salad with artichokes and olives.

Pino na Błoniach

The restaurant is located right next to the green heart of the city, near Jordan Park and the extensive Błonia meadow. On one side, there is open space, trees, and walking paths. On the other, a well-designed restaurant that allows you to “complete” the time with food and coffee.

The cuisine is based on European flavors with a clear Italian accent. The menu includes both simple lunch dishes and more elaborate dinner options. It’s a place that values comfort, seasonality, and consistent quality.

A major asset of Pino na Błoniach is the space. Both indoors and outdoors, the restaurant offers breathing room – tables in the garden, views of greenery, and no feeling of a “crowded center.” This makes it a great choice regardless of the time of day: for coffee after a walk, a quiet lunch, or a longer dinner.

An important element is also the family-friendly approach. It is one of the most child-friendly places in this part of Krakow. Large space, the possibility of moving around freely, and nearby parks and playgrounds mean that parents don’t have to choose between “going to a restaurant” and “daily logistics with kids.” Here, both come together naturally.

Alchemia od Kuchni

The menu changes seasonally and is based on fresh, local products. It is short but varied – you will find breakfasts (with eggs in various versions, vegetarian options, and sweet choices), as well as the main menu: soups, snacks, burgers, steaks, main dishes, sharing boards, and desserts.

It's international cuisine but without a rigid division into styles. It’s more of an effect of travels and inspirations from flavors from different parts of the world, combined into a coherent menu.

Additionally, there is good coffee, a wide selection of teas, fresh juices, cocktails, and a selection of wines and beers. All presented in a manner that suits the character of the place – without pretension, but with quality.

Address: Kazimierz district, Estery 5, 31-056 Kraków

Megiddo

In Kazimierz, there are places you can easily miss if you only walk the main streets. Megiddo doesn't shout from its window, nor does it try to compete with scale or décor. On the contrary – it’s a café hidden next to the synagogue.

The interior is intimate, almost cozy. Calm energy and lack of hurry, which is rare in Kazimierz. It's a place you more “find” than stumble upon by chance.

The most important thing here is the coffee. Specialty coffee prepared in a way that requires no further description. It’s simply good – clean, refined, consistent. This is complemented by baked goods that nicely round out the whole.

Address: Kazimierz district, ul. Kupa 14, 31-057 Kraków, Poland

Ranny Ptaszek

This is a small corner place with a few tables inside and several outside, but this is where its strength lies. It’s not a café where you drop in hurriedly. It's a place that requires a moment of pause and rewards you with a very distinct character.

Ranny Ptaszek is a breakfast bar run by a mother and daughter, which immediately sets its tone. You can see the relationship, experience, and fresh approach to food. The menu is not accidental – it's the result of cooking together, testing, and seeking flavors that are both comforting and a little different from the standard "city breakfast."

Inside, it is colorful but not excessively. Rather warm and homely, with a palpable energy of a place created by people who really love what they do. On the plates appear dishes that carry a bit of travel, a bit of home cooking, and a bit of contemporary approach to breakfasts – from simple compositions to more creative offerings.

It’s also important that breakfasts don’t end here at 11 or 12 o'clock. This place operates in its own rhythm, more flexible than classic cafés. You can start the day later and still feel like it’s a full breakfast, not a compromise.

How to plan your May holidays in Krakow?

The best experience does not come from intensity. It comes from choice.

At TYZENHAUZ, we recommend a simple rule: one strong point a day + good food + space for the city.

This allows you to truly feel the city, not just see it.

And importantly – it's worth taking off the pressure of "seeing everything." May holidays in Krakow need not be a checklist of attractions. It's rather a few days best lived at your own pace, giving space to rest between one place and another.

Krakow itself is an experience that does not require constant planning. Sometimes the best moment of the day is not an exhibition or concert but a quiet walk around the Market Square, coffee without hurry, or a moment on a bench while the city simply happens around.

It’s worth leaving yourself space for such moments – without a plan, without another point on the schedule. This way, intense events carry greater weight, and the whole stay becomes more coherent and natural.

Which TYZENHAUZ apartment to choose?

Krakow is not a sprawling city – its center is compact and small, and the most interesting tourist districts, namely the Old Town and Kazimierz, can be easily walked on foot. A walk between their furthest edges takes no more than 20 minutes, and this form of moving around works best when sightseeing.

TYZENHAUZ currently offers over 140 apartments (as of April 2026), located in townhouses in this area. Some are directly by the Main Market Square, others between the Planty Park and Three Bards Avenue on the west side, and on the east – nearer to Podgórze.

In terms of location, our apartments are best if you want to be in the very heart of Krakow and have everything within a short walking distance. This way, you effortlessly discover the most beautiful places of the city and feel its unique atmosphere.

If you plan to arrive by car, we also have apartments in the Grzegórzki district (East and West). There, you will find spacious interiors and parking spaces, including underground garages. The walk from there to Kazimierz – one of Krakow’s most atmospheric areas – takes about 20 minutes.

We encourage you to check the precise locations on our website: https://www.tyzenhauz.com/apartamenty. There you will find an interactive map that will help you choose the apartment best suited to your needs.
