June Break in Krakow 2026. A city that starts to live differently in summer

The long June weekend in Krakow has the advantage that it doesn't require a very detailed plan. It's rather a moment when it's good to leave some space for spontaneous decisions. Turn into a street you didn't know before. Sit by the Vistula River on the way back from a concert or enter a gallery just because it simply looks interesting.

At Tyzenhauz, we see Krakow as a city that offers many possibilities and has much more to offer than just beautiful history. That’s why we prepared a subjective guide to events, places, and addresses that are truly worth considering during a long weekend in Krakow.

June in Krakow. Why is it one of the best times to visit?

Evenings are already long, the Vistula boulevards full of people, and the events calendar practically suggests a new idea for going out every day. In one weekend, you can catch a jazz concert, a world-class photography exhibition, an outdoor spectacle by the Vistula, and dinner in one of the most interesting restaurants in Poland. Then take a walk through the city late in the evening and return to a comfortable apartment.

For many, the June break in Krakow turns out to be a better choice than the middle of summer. The city is not yet overcrowded with tourists, yet it offers a huge number of possibilities.

Krakow told through images. Krakow Film Festival

The June break in Krakow has had a cinematic dimension for years, and one of the events that strongly builds the city's atmosphere is the 66th Krakow Film Festival. It’s several days during which Krakow becomes a meeting place for people curious about the world, good cinema, and conversations that don’t end when leaving the cinema hall.

The program features documentaries, auteur cinema, short films, and animations—movies often more intimate, attentive, and genuine than typical commercial productions. The festival takes place in arthouse cinemas and venues scattered across the city center, which naturally blends culture with Krakow's everyday rhythm: cafes, walks in the Planty park, and the evening life of Kazimierz.

This event is for those who like to experience the city a bit more slowly. Instead of an intense schedule of attractions, it’s better to choose one screening, then stop for a glass of wine or dinner and soak up the early summer atmosphere in Krakow.

In the evening, the film vibe can also continue in TYZENHAUZ apartments. Comfortable living rooms, Smart TV with access to streaming platforms, and a peaceful, private space make it easy to arrange your own intimate screening after a whole day full of emotions—on your own terms.

Jazz that naturally fits the city's rhythm

One of the most atmospheric events of this June break will be „Old and Young”, i.e., Jazz in Krakow—a festival that for years has attracted both loyal jazz lovers and those seeking a unique atmosphere and good live music to Krakow.

This event perfectly matches the character of Krakow—a city full of history, art, and evenings best spent with live music. Concerts take place in unique city venues such as the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology, the Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic, and the atmospheric Forum Horyzonty. Each of these places gives the concerts a completely different character—ranging from more intimate and atmospheric evenings to modern urban sounds.

This year's edition features truly exceptional names. Among others, Chris Potter will perform at Manggha—recognized as one of the most outstanding contemporary jazz saxophonists worldwide, collaborating with legends like Herbie Hancock and Dave Holland. He will be accompanied by excellent musicians: Matt Brewer and Kendrick Scott.

A huge event will also be the concert of Cécile McLorin Salvant—three-time Grammy winner, regarded as one of the most outstanding vocalists of the contemporary jazz scene. Her concerts are renowned for extraordinary elegance, emotion, and an almost intimate atmosphere of meeting the audience.

The festival also presents a younger, fresher face of jazz. The New York trio New Jazz Underground, combining classic hard bop with hip-hop and modern soul, will appear at Forum Horyzonty, gaining huge popularity among younger audiences and millions of views online.

Special attention deserves the concert by Maciej Obara Quartet featuring Norwegian trumpeter Mathias Eick at the Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic—an event perfectly fitting the more subtle Scandinavian atmosphere of contemporary European jazz.

After the concert evening, TYZENHAUZ guests can return to their peaceful private space in the heart of the city—to rest with a glass of wine, open the windows to the night Krakow, and keep the festival atmosphere for a while longer.

Photography Month. Krakow more artistic and conscious

In June, Krakow once again transforms into one of the most important meeting places around contemporary photography and art. Photography Month has for years built a more intimate, intellectual atmosphere in the city, attracting people who like to discover the world through images. This year's edition is held under the slogan “Unreal Estate” and focuses on Central European themes, memory, identity, and Polish-German relations.

This event definitely goes beyond the classical understanding of a photography exhibition. Photography here becomes an excuse to talk about history, borders, transformation, and contemporary urban life. The program includes not only exhibitions but also meetings, curator tours, discussions, and accompanying events scattered throughout Krakow.

The main exhibitions take place in some of the most interesting artistic spaces in the city: MOCAK, Bunker of Art, and the Potocki Palace. Thanks to this, moving between exhibitions becomes part of the festival experience and an opportunity to discover Krakow from a more artistic side.

The program features recognized artists from Poland and Germany. At MOCAK, you can see works by German visual artist Annette Kelm, whose photographs touch on historical memory and traces of 20th-century Europe. The Bunker of Art presents projects by, among others, Karolina Gembara, Paweł Bownik, and German artist Eiko Grimberg, whose works address contemporary borders and Europe's condition.

Instead of intense sightseeing, it is worth choosing one exhibition, then stopping for coffee near Planty or Kazimierz and allowing yourself a moment of reflection.

After a day full of galleries, conversations, and city walks, you can return to your TYZENHAUZ apartment and rest in a private, peaceful space.

Lunch Break and Art Lunch. MOCAK in a more everyday version

MOCAK Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow is itself a space that allows entering contemporary art without excess interpretation and distance. This museum acts quickly but not superficially. It offers a chance for a short, intense contact with art that requires no preparation or long planning.

When visiting MOCAK, it’s worth paying attention to its two recurring events. One of the more interesting offers is Lunch Break—a special event held twice a month. It combines a tour of current exhibitions with lunch at the museum restaurant Amant. The whole takes the form of a calm meeting with art and food simultaneously. Participation requires a ticket and prior reservation at the museum reception.

The second option is Art Lunch—a more casual offer, simply combining a museum visit with lunch at Amant. Just keep your admission ticket to receive a 20% discount on the lunch menu. The offer is valid Tuesday to Friday from 12:00 to 16:00.

Both forms invite you not to treat the museum visit as a separate part of the day but as its natural element—with space for eating, resting, and calmly “prolonging” contact with art.

Krakow awakens dragons. The Great Dragon Parade

The June break in Krakow also has its most fairy-tale and spectacular face. The Great Dragon Parade is an event that for over two decades has turned the city into a huge stage full of light, music, and fantasy. It is when the legend of the Wawel Dragon momentarily comes alive and becomes part of contemporary Krakow.

Throughout the weekend, the Vistula Boulevards host the Dragon Family Picnic—full of animations, family attractions, contests, and outdoor activities. The atmosphere is light, summery, and very Krakow-like: children running with paper dragons, music coming from the Vistula, and crowds strolling between Wawel and Kazimierz.

The most spectacular moment remains the evening Great Open-Air Spectacle on the Vistula, held at the Tyniec Boulevard. After dark, giant flying dragons appear over the Vistula, accompanied by light effects, music, and elaborate visual arrangements. The reflections in the water and the panorama of night Krakow create an atmosphere more like a film spectacle than a typical city festival.

The weekend culminates with the Dragon Parade—a colorful procession moving from the Planty Park near the Royal Hotel to the Main Market Square. Huge handmade dragons move through the city streets accompanied by orchestras, dancers, and performers. Each construction has its own character, story, and set design, and the whole resembles a moving theater in the city space.

Why is it worth it? Because it is one of those events that show Krakow from a happier, family-friendly, and somewhat magical side. The city for a moment ceases to be solely historic and monumental—it becomes colorful, full of laughter and summer energy.

After a day spent by the Vistula or an evening spectacle, TYZENHAUZ guests can return to their apartments by walking through the illuminated night Krakow—with Wawel, the Vistula, and dragons still present somewhere in the background of this unique June weekend.

Art that tells the story of Krakow

During the June break, it’s worth finding a moment for a quieter discovery of Krakow through places that have shaped its identity for generations. One such place is the Jan Matejko House—a unique museum located in the family townhouse of one of the most important Polish artists.

This is where Jan Matejko was born, lived, created, and died—a distinguished historical painter, collector, and professor of the Krakow School of Fine Arts. The townhouse itself, located on the old Royal Route, has a unique atmosphere and allows you to feel the ambiance of 19th-century Krakow for a while.

The museum interiors are full not only of monumental history but also the very personal side of the artist. You can see sketches for famous historical paintings, portraits of family and friends, as well as everyday objects, collections, and memorabilia gathered by Matejko throughout his life. Particularly impressive are the intimate studios and sketches that reveal the artist's creative process—a much more personal side than the monumental paintings he is most known for today.

An interesting element of the exhibition are also Matejko's satirical drawings displayed during the “Satire and Comics at Jan Matejko's” exhibition. They allow you to discover the artist from a completely different side—as a man with a great sense of humor, distance towards himself and the world, and great attentiveness to everyday life in Krakow.

Why is it worth it? Because it is one of those places that help better understand the city's character. Krakow here is not just a backdrop for monuments and tourism—it becomes a living story about art, history, and the people who have shaped its culture over the years.

After walking Floriańska Street and visiting the Matejko House, it’s worth stopping for coffee near the Main Market Square and in the evening returning to the TYZENHAUZ apartment to calmly celebrate your June stay in Krakow.

Great European masters in the heart of Krakow

During the June break in Krakow, it’s also worth leaving some time for encountering art in its most classical and timeless form. One of the places definitely worth visiting is the National Museum in Krakow – the Main Building and the new European Art Gallery—a space presenting the most valuable examples of European painting and sculpture from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.

This is a place where you can see works by artists belonging to the absolute canon of art history. Among the exhibited works are paintings by creators such as Lorenzo Lotto, Pieter Brueghel the Younger, Lucas Cranach the Younger, and Lavinia Fontana, as well as sculptures by outstanding artists including Antonio Canova.

The gallery is designed like a journey through successive eras and styles. Visitors move from 19th and 20th-century art through emotionally charged Baroque painting to medieval and Renaissance sacred works. Particularly impressive is the monumental yet incredibly subtle “Adoration of the Infant” by Lorenzo Lotto and Romanesque Madonnas with Child—among the most valuable objects in the entire collection.

However, this is not just a story about art itself but also about Krakow as a city of collectors, patrons, and people who over decades built the collections of the National Museum in Krakow. The gallery’s history reminds us that many of these works came to the museum thanks to private donors and art enthusiasts who wanted to create a truly European place in Krakow.

After visiting the European Art Gallery, it’s worth taking a walk through Błonia or resting in one of the nearby cafes, and in the evening returning to the TYZENHAUZ apartment and pausing a bit longer in the atmosphere of art and a peaceful Krakow afternoon.

Breaks between events are just as important

The June break in Krakow is not just about festivals, concerts, and museums.

Sometimes the most enjoyable part of the day is not the event itself but everything around it. Morning coffee drunk without hurry. A walk through the Planty park between one place and another. Dinner stretching late into the evening because suddenly there’s no need to rush anywhere.

That’s why we also prepared a few addresses that show contemporary Krakow well. A more local, gastronomic, and everyday one. A place that residents really return to regularly, not only on holidays.

You can find more in the next part of our June guide to Krakow here.

How to plan a June break in Krakow?

The best weekend in Krakow usually does not come from an intense plan.

At Tyzenhauz, we recommend a very simple rule: one strong point per day + good food + space for the city.

Thanks to this, Krakow really starts to work. Without the pressure to see everything. Without running from attraction to attraction.

Sometimes the best moment of the day turns out to be a walk through Planty or coffee drunk unhurriedly in the middle of the afternoon.

What accommodation in Krakow to choose during the June break?

If you are planning a weekend in Krakow, the location of the accommodation makes a huge difference.

The city center is compact, so the best are apartments located between the Old Town, Kazimierz, and the Planty surroundings. Thanks to this, most places can be discovered on foot, truly feeling the city’s rhythm.

Currently, Tyzenhauz offers over 140 apartments in the center of Krakow. Some are located directly by the Main Market Square, others closer to Kazimierz, Podgórze, or the quieter western parts of the center.

For those traveling by car, apartments in Grzegórzki with parking spaces and convenient access to the center are also a good option.

A great advantage is precisely the possibility of exploring the city on foot. Krakow is best discovered by walking, admiring the charms of historic townhouses and beautiful greenery, which in June is truly charming.

If you are looking for accommodation in the center of Krakow that will let you really feel the city's rhythm, check out Tyzenhauz apartments. Most of the most interesting places described in this guide are just a few minutes’ walk from our locations.

You can check the exact apartment locations on the Tyzenhauz website with an interactive map and descriptions of individual interiors.
